Op 15 oktober 2009 heeft de ledenvergadering van de VVD het verkiezingsprogramma voor de raadsperiode 2010-2014 vastgesteld. Het is een realistisch programma op hoofdlijnen. Dat wil niet zeggen dat alle onderwerpen uitputtend behandeld worden, maar wel de belangrijkste aandachtspunten voor de raadsfractie de komende vier jaar. Realistisch wil zeggen dat we ons niet beperken tot de ambities, maar rekening houden met de huidige economische tijd waarin de gemeente zich voor grote bezuinigingen van 50 miljoen Euro gesteld ziet.
Ambities, ja natuurlijk!
De VVD wil investeren in banen door het bedrijfsleven te faciliteren, door te werken aan de bereikbaarheid van Groningen, en de lastendruk voor de bewoners en de ondernemers te beperken. Meer banen zijn van het grootste belang om de gemeentefinanciën op orde te houden, maar bovenal belangrijk voor onze bewoners. Niemand kiest er daadwerkelijk voor om aan de kant te blijven staan.
Het huidige linkse college beperkt zich grotendeels tot het financieel veilig stellen van grote projecten waaronder het Groninger Forum en de tram. Dit blijkt te meer uit de begroting voor 2010. De VVD vindt het onverantwoord om tientallen miljoenen per jaar te stoppen in het Groninger Forum en een tram, met de grootte van een trein. Bij het Groninger Forum moeten commerciële partijen worden betrokken zodat de gemeente, oftewel u als belastingbetaler, niet de enige donateur is. Bovendien vinden we een combinatie van een bibliotheek, een bioscoop en een historische collectie niet de bruisende formule die we voor ogen hadden toen er gestart werd met de plannen. Daarnaast zullen de financiën van de tram een onevenredig beslag op ons belastinggeld gaan leggen. Dit vindt de VVD onverantwoord.
Ook moet de gemeente zelf de broekriem aanhalen met aan afslankingsoperatie. We mogen de rekening niet eenzijdig bij u als inwoner van deze gemeente neerleggen. Daarbij moet de gemeente zich beperken tot haar hoofdtaken waaronder een schone, veilige, en leefbare stad Groningen. We zullen niet weglopen voor onze bestuurlijke verantwoordelijkheid. De VVD heeft vaker de financiële puinhopen van links bestuur opgeruimd, daar zijn we goed in. Maar niet zonder het verlaten van onze uitgangspunten en principes. Besturen ja, maar niet ten koste van alles. Eerst de verkiezingen! Met dit verkiezingsprogramma, ambitieus maar realistisch, zijn we er van overtuigd de goede koers te pakken te hebben.
